Eye bolts are fasteners with a round head. The hole in the head is called an eye and gives the bolt its name. The DIN 444 eye bolt should not be confused with a ""lifting eye bolt""; the eye bolt has a longer thread and the lifting eye bolt has a larger eye.

The applications of the two differ considerably. The eye bolt is mainly used for fastening objects such as wire ropes, hooks, pins and links. A practical application example would be on a turnbuckle with a lock nut and a threaded rod.

These components are used to tension and clamp cable or wire constructions. Thanks to the very strong eye bolts, they can be used to secure loads or fix a position. Eye bolts are often secured with ""wing nuts"", allowing them to be tightened and loosened quickly. Due to the wide range of applications, the DIN 444 eye bolt is an important structural element in mechanical engineering. The relatively long thread allows easy installation at the desired location.
