What is wire rope with thermally welded ends?

With this type of wire rope, the ends are fused together using heat. This bonds the individual wires at the end of the rope and helps prevent them from spreading apart or fraying during further processing.

A thermally welded wire rope end should not be confused with a separate end sleeve or wire rope clip. No additional component is fitted around the end: the end of the wire rope itself is thermally treated and welded.

Common terms for this type of product include thermally welded wire rope, welded wire rope ends and welded cable ends.

Why choose wire rope with welded ends?

Standard cut wire rope consists of multiple individual wires. When the rope is cut, these wires can spread apart at the end, making further assembly or processing more difficult.

By thermally welding the end, the individual wires remain together more effectively. This creates a clean, compact wire rope end that is practical for further processing.

Reduced risk of fraying

The main advantage of a thermally welded wire rope end is that it helps prevent fraying. The individual wires remain together at the end, creating a compact and neatly finished rope end.

Easier further processing

A compact rope end is particularly useful when the wire rope needs to be passed through a suitable opening, fitting or component. The possible further processing depends on the selected diameter, wire rope construction and intended application.

No separate end sleeve required for anti-fraying

The welded end is part of the wire rope itself. Therefore, no separate sleeve is required solely to keep the individual wires together and prevent fraying.

Please note: a thermally welded end is intended to prevent fraying. It is not automatically a load-bearing termination and does not necessarily replace a wire rope clip, ferrule, terminal or other fastening component.

AISI 304 stainless steel wire rope

The wire rope is made from AISI 304 stainless steel, a widely used stainless steel grade suitable for many different applications.

AISI 304 stainless steel offers a practical combination of workability and corrosion resistance under many normal operating conditions. Whether it is suitable for your specific application depends on factors such as the environment, load and exposure to certain substances.

For environments with high levels of chlorides, salt water or other aggressive conditions, another stainless steel grade may be required. Always check the requirements of your intended application.

Available in 1.2 mm, 1.8 mm and 2.5 mm

Not every application requires the same wire rope diameter. This stainless steel wire rope with welded ends is therefore available in several diameters:

Wire rope diameter Material End finish Availability
1.2 mm AISI 304 stainless steel Thermally welded Various lengths
1.8 mm AISI 304 stainless steel Thermally welded 1500 mm
2.5 mm AISI 304 stainless steel Thermally welded 1500 mm

The correct diameter depends on the application and the requirements placed on the wire rope. When selecting the right version, consider not only the diameter but also the required length, fastening method and any mechanical load.

Various wire rope lengths available

In addition to several diameters, different lengths are also available. This means you do not necessarily need to purchase a full reel of wire rope when you only require a specific length.

Select the required version based on the available diameter and length.

Available versions / article numbers:
GS263 - GS12150 - GS12300 - GS18150 - GS25150

Always check the specifications of the selected version before ordering to ensure that the diameter and length are suitable for your application.

What can stainless steel wire rope with welded ends be used for?

Stainless steel wire rope can be used for a wide range of technical, construction and assembly applications. The suitability of a particular application depends on the wire rope construction, diameter, load and type of termination used.

Thermally welded wire rope ends are particularly useful when a clean and compact end is required for further processing.

  • For further processing into an assembled product
  • For feeding through a suitable opening or component
  • As part of an assembly
  • For applications using additional fastening components
  • When a predetermined wire rope length is required

Only use the wire rope for applications for which the selected version is technically suitable. For load-bearing, safety-critical or structural applications, factors including wire rope construction, working load, breaking load and termination must be determined correctly.

Which wire rope diameter do I need?

The choice between 1.2 mm, 1.8 mm and 2.5 mm wire rope depends on the intended application.

A thinner wire rope may be suitable when a compact and flexible solution is required, while a larger diameter may be necessary where the application places greater mechanical demands on the rope.

Diameter alone is not enough to determine the load capacity of a wire rope. The construction of the rope, material, termination and operating conditions also play an important role.

For mechanically loaded applications, do not select wire rope based solely on diameter.

Thermally welded versus cut wire rope ends

The main difference is the finish of the rope end. With a standard cut wire rope, the individual wires can spread apart after cutting. With a thermally welded wire rope end, the individual wires are bonded together at the end.

Feature Cut wire rope end Thermally welded end
Risk of fraying Higher Reduced
Individual wires stay together Not necessarily Yes, at the rope end
Compact rope end Depends on the cut Yes
Suitable for further processing Depends on the situation Practical starting point
Additional sleeve required to prevent fraying May be required Not required

A welded wire rope end does not mean that the rope automatically has a complete load-bearing termination. Additional components may still be required for fastening.

Frequently asked questions about stainless steel wire rope with welded ends

What are thermally welded ends on wire rope?

With thermally welded wire rope ends, the individual wires at the end of the rope are bonded together using heat. This keeps the end compact and helps prevent fraying.

Why are wire rope ends welded?

Welding the end helps prevent the individual wires from spreading apart or fraying after the rope has been cut to length. This creates a cleaner rope end and can make further processing easier.

What material is this wire rope made from?

This wire rope is made from AISI 304 stainless steel.

Which wire rope diameters are available?

The wire rope is available in 1.2 mm, 1.8 mm and 2.5 mm. Different lengths may be available depending on the selected diameter.

Are different wire rope lengths available?

Yes. Several lengths and versions are available. Check the available product variants to select the correct combination of diameter and length.

Can I order the wire rope in another length?

If you require a length that is not offered as a standard version, ask us about the possibilities and provide the required diameter, length and quantity.

Is a thermally welded wire rope end the same as an end sleeve?

No. With a thermally welded end, the end of the wire rope itself is treated and welded. An end sleeve is a separate component fitted around or onto the wire rope.

Can wire rope with a welded end be loaded directly?

This cannot be determined solely from the welded end. Safe load capacity depends on factors including the wire rope construction, diameter, termination and intended application. A thermally welded anti-fraying end should not automatically be regarded as a load-bearing termination.

Is AISI 304 stainless steel suitable for outdoor use?

AISI 304 stainless steel offers good corrosion resistance under many normal conditions. Its suitability for a specific outdoor environment depends on the level of exposure. In aggressive, salty or chloride-rich environments, another stainless steel grade may be required.

Order stainless steel wire rope with thermally welded ends

With this stainless steel wire rope with thermally welded ends, you get a neatly finished wire rope designed to prevent the individual wires from fraying. It is made from AISI 304 stainless steel and is available in 1.2 mm, 1.8 mm and 2.5 mm, with various lengths depending on the version.
